How to Play Pick 4
Pick 4 is a simple game, but there are lots of different ways to play. One big decision is how you want to try to match the winning numbers.
A four-digit combination between 0000 and 9999 is selected at random in each draw, so you must think about whether you want to try to match the numbers exactly, or in any order. Here’s a full rundown of all the possible play types:
- Straight: Choose any four numbers, and win by matching all of them in exact order.
- Box: You win if the four numbers you pick match the drawn numbers in any order. There are four types of Box play – 4-Way (three numbers are the same), 6-Way (two sets of pairs), 12-Way (two unique numbers and two identical numbers), and 24-Way (four different numbers).
- Straight/Box: Half your wager goes on a Straight play and half on a Box play. You win both parts of the prize if you match the numbers in exact order, or just the Box prize if you match them in a different order.
- Front Pair: Choose any two numbers and win by matching them in the first two positions, in exact order.
- Mid Pair: Predict which two numbers will be drawn in the second and third positions. You win if you get them both in the correct places.
- Back Pair: A bet on which two numbers will be drawn third and fourth. You need to match them in exact order to win.
Decide whether to play the Midday draw, the Evening draw, or both, and how many draws to play in advance. You can enter your numbers for 12 consecutive days (24 draws in a row if you’re playing both draw times).
You can also choose a 2 Play ticket (where you play two sets of numbers on your $1 ticket), or a 1 Play ticket (one set of numbers).
